12/22/15 – One last stop

Howdy pardner’s! What’s shakin’?

Tonight I’m enjoying the lovely parking lot of a Wal-Mart in … where the heck am I? Hold on a second, let me check …

Mocksville, North Carolina! Yeah, I’ve never heard of it, either, but it was right off of I-40 and offers a nice, quiet spot for Charlotte to get her beauty sleep. I’m right next to the car care center here, but they don’t open until 0700 and I’ll be long gone by then. At least, I better be!

I’ve got to get unloaded in South Boston, Virginia tomorrow morning at 0800 and I’ve still got a little over 100 miles to go. From there, I’ll have to drop my empty pumpkin somewhere that has yet to be determined and then it’s off to the house!

Thursday will be filled with last second shopping, wrapping and general craziness. It’s all good, though, as I get to spend Thursday night chomping down cookies and drinking some ice cold milk with my jolly buddy, Santa.

I sure hope you all have a great Christmas! I’ll be off the road for several days, so you’re going to have to find some other way to entertain yourselves until I return. I’m sure you’ll manage.

It was a drizzly, foggy day and the going was a bit slow. Have a look at what Jill was showing me for routing …

That’s what the Great Smoky Mountains looks like to her. Add in a little rain and a whole lot of fog and we just had ourselves a grand ‘ole time! Ahhh, it wasn’t really bad, just slow is all. We’ve seen worse!

So I get to my pick-up and find my loaded pumpkin and it seems the yard jockeys who park these things just kind of go by feel. When one bangs into another, they know they’re good …

Interesting. I was going to go get a yard jockey to pull them apart, just in case there was damage, but after a close inspection, they weren’t actually touching. I feel like Ripley …”believe it or not.”

So we got away from there and went to scale. Without seeing the load in the box, I could only guess where to slide my tandems to even the load. Turns out I’m pretty good at that. There was only a 500 pound difference between the axles. Pretty even for a 39,000 pound load.

I got Phil a second fill and made him happy, then we set out for our great journey. I would say we put it in zoom mode, but as you saw with the road, there wasn’t much zooming at all.

Well, you know the rest of the story for the day, so I’m going to go chow down my can of beef stew and get some sleep. It’ll be an early morning and I hope to be home by mid-afternoon. I’d like to go do a wee bit of shopping once I get there, but most likely I’ll take a nap. Priorities, you know?

Thanks for passing through on this Christmas eve, eve, eve. I appreciate you taking the time. Now go back to making cookies … Santa will be by shortly to munch them down.

Have a fabulous Christmas everybody and I’ll talk to you after it’s all over. And don’t forget, there’s a few pics to gander at down below.

Until next time then …
